hike #30

Bock Harvey Forest Preserve and Riemen Woods, Enfield

Meet-up:  125 Rockwell Road, Enfield, between Hines Road and Porter Hill Road

This is a very attractive hike that runs through a nice mix of fields and woods.  Much of the walk is relatively easy, though there’s a steep uphill in the first stage.  It includes a section that’s a big deal in forest circles because it contains some of the oldest sugar maples in New York State.  You can read details about the old woods hereThe historic parcel was donated for public use a few years ago by our own regular hiker Dave B.

We start by walking west on Rockwell Road to the intersection with Porter Hill Road, where we enter Riemen Woods,  Here we have a bit of a steep climb for a while.  The quality of the woods here differs from what we see on the other parts of this hike.  You can read about the Riemen Woods preserve here.
